For questions regarding membership, please reachout to the respective detachment point of contact provided in the links. Requesting an Appearance
Here are some common questions regarding requesting appearances.
How much to we charge?
We dont charge. Our support is stricktly voluntary. Because we are 100% non-profit, any donations received as a result of our support will go to an approced charity organization (eg., Make-A-Wish Foundation).
What type of events to you support?
Almost everything; however, there are exceptions of course. We support everything from birthday parties, weddings, conventions, charitable events, hospital visits, and even the Houston Astros!! We even support businesses however, LFL has a standing moratorium on supporting businesses due to the perception of affiliation. These moratoriums are typically lifted during certian times of the year (e.g., May the 4th) and other campaigns that support the Star Wars universe so don't let that stop you from requesting an appearance.
Can I request specific characters?
Yes, Yes, Yes. Nothing is better for a person who spent a lot of work to perfect their costume to have it requsted for an appearance. Typically, most requests leave it open to any character. Keep in mind, although a specific character request is made, we will do our best to accomodate, but it is dependant on the persons schedule and character availability. For example, Wookies are scarce so keep in mind that competing events and/or the persons personal work schedule may play into their ability to support.
How many characters typically show to an event?
Depends on how many you requested and a few other factors.
- Date and time of the event - weekend events get a better showing because the supporting characters may not have work conflicts.
- Competing events - the more events that are requested causes our team to prioritize based on distance and availability.
- Specific character requests - Some characters are limited (e.g., Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Bobba Fett, R2D2). We typically can support most of the popular characters; however due to the availability of these characters, it may be difficult to accomodate. These characters are easier to aquire for weekend events. On the other hand, Storm Troopers, Rebel Pilots, Jedis, Jawas, and Imperial Officers are plentyful.
How do I request and appearance?
Simply, click the menu bar above and select "Request an Appearance". The link will take you to a Google form that can be filled out and submitted to the Star Garrison -South Texas Events Coordinator. Although the form is affiliated with the 501st Legion, you can still request other organizations associated with the Gallactic Alliance to support your event. Alternatively, you can navigate to the respective costuming organization you are interested in and request an appearance directly from their site.

Bad Guys Doing Good...
The 501st Legion is an international costuming organization dedicated to celebrating STAR WARS™ through the creation and use of quality costumes that portray the villainous, morally ambiguous, or non-partisan characters from the STAR WARS™ universe. The Legion promotes interest in STAR WARS and facilitates the use of these costumes for STAR WARS-related events as well as contributes to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work.
To Promote Interest in Star Wars
While a growing number of people are experiencing a reawakening of their Star Wars fandom, new generations are seeking ways to celebrate their passion for George Lucas's modern mythology. The 501st Legion brings these fans together, reinforcing the enduring longevity of the Star Wars saga.
To Facilitate the Use of Costumes
Some fans are content to collect action figures...other fans want to be action figures. Nothing professes your passion quite like building your own detailed costume replica of a classic Star Wars villain, and there's nothing quite like the feeling that comes from bringing the characters of Star Wars into the real world and sharing the magic with others.
To Contribute
While our organization was founded to simply provide a collective identity for costuming fans with similar interests, the 501st is proud to put its resources to good use through fundraising, charity work, and volunteering. Read more about their charity work here.

Saber Guild is a not-for-profit, LucasFilm-recognized Star Wars costuming group that specializes in choreographed lightsaber shows. We perform at charity and community events, as well as comic book and sci-fi conventions, all to raise money for charity and share our love of Star Wars with fans around the world.
Saber Guild started in 2006 with half a dozen people in California, members of established costuming organizations and unofficial lightsaber choreography groups coming together to have fun, serve the community and represent the Star Wars brand in a way that had never been done before. Now, ten years later, Saber Guild has over 700 members in 35 temples and 8 countries. We are not only Lucasfilm’s preferred lightsaber performance group, but we are the largest recognized lightsaber club in the world.
Our Mission
Our mission is threefold:
- Focus on Charity
- Safe, exciting stage combat
- Screen-Accurate Star Wars Costuming
Fight Choreography
Saber Guild performances include choreographed stage combat, using prop sabers rated for full contact. Our members do not spar at our shows; everything you see has been carefully rehearsed to ensure it is safe for the performers.
Our members practice for weeks or months for each performance to ensure that we can bring Star Wars to life for our audiences.
We welcome all levels of physical ability; our membership includes everyone from people with extensive martial arts or stage combat experience, to people who’ve never held a prop weapon before.
Charity and Community
Our organization focuses on making a positive and meaningful difference in our communities through fundraising for charity organizations, and community outreach events to be a force for good.
Each temple raises money for local charities, donations made as part of their performances and appearances.
Temples also do community outreach events, bringing the magic of Star Wars to people from all walks of life.
Costuming
Our costumes are handmade and high quality. We strive for costumes that look like we just stepped out of a Star Wars movie and into the performance space.
We have guidelines and standards for both Jedi and Sith characters, as well as any force-sensitive, lightsaber wielding named characte
rs from the Star Wars universe.
Never made a costume before? Our local leadership can help you through the process. Teaching and growing our members skills is a part of what we do, and costumes are an important part of our mission to bring Star Wars to life for our audiences.
